The Wind in the willows

This week I started a new project:

The Task

For this design in context brief I was given a number of competitions to choose from and had to pick one .  These were : D&AD – Department of health : Make exercise  a healthy habit,  Penguin/Puffin Awards (Book cover)– The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler (Penguin) and The Wind in the willows by Kenneth Grahame (Puffin), YCN  - Fedrigoni  : Inspire  printers across the UK to work with Fedrigoni papers , and  Holocaust international Poster competition ( Jewish Cultural Centre) – Keeping the memory alive  by making a poster to raise awareness.

Instantly I was drawn to the book cover competition  particularly the Wind and the Willows one as I am interested in doing childrens book illustration, so I decide to do this task.

Initial Research

I had never read the book before so I read a summary of the plot and characters on Wikipedia.
I started off by doing literal research – research relating directing to the story. I collected images of the animals the characters were based off, what I thought the location was like, transport etc.
